Binalong

Jail Cell

Located in the historical town of Binalong, this old 1800’s jail cell was originally built with ‘pise’ walls – also known as Rammed Earth. It was the final resting place of famed outlaw, Johnny Gilbert.

We were lucky enough to rebuild this historical structure using a portion of the old un-stabilised walls incorporated into new stabilised Rammed Earth walls. The original roof trusses, tin and even steel bars for the cell window were reinstated.

Such a wonderful project to restore a very interesting piece of Australian history. Locally sourced materials used in combination with the original walls made for a great colour to suit the landscape.

We look forward to the next project on this property soon!
